I am a sculptor navigating the intersections of tradition and contemporaneity, working with materials ranging from clay, plaster, and wax to metal, digital modeling, and light. My practice is on a dialogue with ephemerality by delving into the physical and symbolic weight of form and its temporal presence. For me, sculpture transcends objecthood; it becomes a spatial site of recollection and projection—a gesture of placement in physical space that brings something nonphysical and thus is often intrusive, sometimes hostile, and aggressive.
Drawing from classical iconography and popular culture, I explore how historical, mythological, and digital references converge within the form, imbuing it with contradictions: gravity and play, devotion and detachment, permanence and absurdity. The grotesque, damaged, hybrid figure recurs in my work, echoing extremes from ancient statues to post-human bodies.
My background in music informs my sculptural approach. Thus, I attempt to channel the abstraction and directness of music into a method of forming matter that resonates not with sound but with an internal, encapsulated pulse. This sensibility fosters narratives that unravel in multiple ways, are rooted in personal experiences, and extend to societal and human dimensions through vulnerability, which is at the core of my process.
Vulnerability is a fixation that serves as both a compass and modulus. It helps me sense a work's necessity. This naturally comes with risk-taking, with which I try to surpass technique and intellect, which often leads to my most urgent and unfiltered work. Ultimately, my work strives to remember what it's like to play, to rediscover what is human, and to resonate that essence, even if it emerges from aggression or violence.
My work has been supported by NEON (twice), the Ethniki Asfalistiki Art Prize, and a merit scholarship from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, where I earned my MFA. I've exhibited in Greece and the U.S., and I'm currently developing a series of sculptures exploring the reciprocity between myth and contemporary form.
